Everton FC Facts
Everton have been at the forefront of English football ever since the club was formed in 1878.
From the pioneering days of St. Domingo to the atmosphere when the current team enters the arena to the sound of Z-Cars and the deafening noise from over 40,000 spectators, the story is one that every Evertonian is quite rightly proud of.
Genuine legends of the English game have worn the famous Royal Blue jersey with League Championships and FA Cup triumphs decorating a long and thrilling history - no trip to Merseyside would be complete without a visit.

Liverpool Football Club was formed in 1892 and is rightfully classed as the most successful English club at a domestic level with an amazing haul in its 116 year history of 18 League Championships, 14 League and FA Cups, plus 3 UEFA and European Super Cups apiece. But it's the five European Trophies that place the club in an ultra exclusive group.
Any trip to the City just wouldn't be complete without seeing the Shankly Gates and the home of the mighty Reds. Whether coming to see an exciting Premiership clash or an amazing night of European action, or even simply touring the Liverpool FC Museum, Anfield will leave a lasting impression on you. Other Sports and Activities
Football is probably the sport Liverpool is most famous for with Liverpool FC and Everton FC both based within the city but if football isn't your thing maybe golf is. There are numerous golf courses in and around Liverpool including Royal Birkdale. Royal Birkdale is situated just outside of Liverpool in the town of Southport. This Golf club is in The Open Championship rotation and hosted the 2008 Open July 17th – July 20th. Just down the road from Royal Birkdale is the recently refurbished Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa. If the shopping and nightlife Liverpool City Centre has to offer you becomes a bit too much you can visit Formby Hall enjoy around of golf. Soon you will be able to relax in the newly built spa and health club and you can spend the night in the new hotel.
Horse Racing in Liverpool
Thousands flock to the city every April for the greatest steeplechase in the world, the John Smiths Grand National, while 600 million more watch it on TV around the world. This is as much horse racing country as Newmarket or the South Downs: Leasowe, on the Wirral, can claim to be the origin of the Derby. The Derby family are said to have given their name to the horse race when Lord Derby organized racing on Leasowe Common, long before the race moved on to Newmarket and Epsom.
The Grand National festival is run over three days at Aintree, which hosts horse racing throughout the year. But if your trip to Liverpool doesn't coincide with racing at Aintree, you can get a taste of the exhilaration and excitement at the Grand National Experience. Visit the weighing room and Winner's Enclosure and pay your respects to the legendary Red Rum, before sampling the excitement of the big race in the Race of Champions, a specially simulated running of the race.
Haydock Park - the venue for both flat racing and National Hunt on Merseyside - is a short journey from the city, and the most-visited racecourse in the country. It hosts a number of meets across the year, and combines with Aintree every November to host the Northwest Racing Masters, a day each of racing at both Haydock and Aintree.
Chester Races is one of the oldest race courses in the country, with racing staged on the Roodee for over 450 years. It's also just half an hour from Liverpool, and features a summer programme of racing.
Exciting Sports in Liverpool City Region
But scratch the surface, and there's a huge range of sports on offer: rugby league continues to rise in popularity, led by St.Helens Saints and Widnes Vikings, while the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament attracts some of the world's top tennis talents, including Goran Ivanisevic, Pat Cash and Xavier Malisse. This May saw the first Liverpool 08 Squash Tournament at St George's Hall, and the event is expected to grow to form a major event in the world squash calendar.
